I am biologically intersex and he is an endosex, cisgender man. These three symbols below represent non-binary people:įemale and Male Symbols, or Heterosexual.Īs you can imagine “same gender” or “opposite gender” appearing couples can be any mixture of the above symbols, not just these last three shown above.įor example, to represent the sexual orientation of my husband and me, I would merge these two gender symbols together. It is the one used on the yellow and purple intersex flag. T his symbol represents genderless, sexless, asexual, neutrois, or neuter. This symbol represents neuter, neutrois, or no gender. It is a horizontal male symbol with a stroke sign. This symbol is another one used for “other gender”. It is a vertical male symbol, with stroke sign. It is the male symbol with an added stroke sign. T his symbol is also used for transgender. This symbol is the common sign used to represent transgender people or even non-binary people. Sometimes it is used to symbolize transgender even, but not as common as the symbol below this one. It is often used to represent intersex people or organisms. This symbol represents both male and female, together. Last, it is the astrological sign of Mercury. This is also a sign used for some intersex people that identify themselves as a hermaphrodite. This symbol is often used to represent organisms which are both male and female such as a flower, snail or true hermaphrodite organisms. It is also the astrological symbol for Venus. The symbol for a female organism or woman. It is also the astrological symbol for Mars. Many do not realize what all these gender symbols represent so I will explain them below: I am Proudly the First in Colorado, to get an Intersex Birth Certificate I exist and You will not Erase Me! My Thoughts about the Gender Symbols from the Past.Īlthough I feel that there are so many different variations of intersex that one can’t even describe them all with even these gender symbols, I felt it important to share that the male/female binary was not all we had in the past to describe us humans in ancient history. Needless to say, society has tried to convince us these symbols are about mythology when I feel they were not. Intersex people were also at one time called “hermaphrodites”. These gender symbols prove to me that intersex people were better accepted at one time by society. ![]() This is called emoji art.At one time human cultures recognized that there was more than just typical endosex or dyadic male and typical endosex or dyadic female. More Gender and Sexuality Emojis and SymbolsĮvery pride flag can be made with emojis, such as the colored square or heart emojis, kind of like pixel art. Pride is especially celebrated during Pride Month, which occurs during June of every year. It celebrates the visibility of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and other marginalized groups.
